Light blue OCBD

Mark Kwak

I personally think that the light blue oxford cloth button down (OCBD) shirt is one of the most versatile pieces you can own. Just to demonstrate, I've outfitted my personal Brooks Brothers OCDB in two ways. One being more formal, the other being more casual. Check it out. First, a casual OCBD look. I paired my shirt with a pair of shorts and sneakers to keep cool during the summer months.

cas2

Remember that you don't want your shorts to be any longer than seen above. Keeping it right at/above the knee is a great length in my opinion.

cas3

I love a classic white sneaker. So easy to wear.

cas4

Roll the sleeves up and wear the shirt like a short sleeved dress shirt.

cas5

Shirt: Brooks Brothers | Shorts: Uniqlo | Shoes: Converse

Watch: Timex | Belt: Uniqlo

 ---

And now for the more formal look. I wore this outfit to a client dinner the other day actually. Personally thought it worked quite well.

form2

The grey trousers / navy jacket look is actually one of my favorites.

form3

Colorful socks per usual.

form4

Can't forget your accessories (belt/watch).

form5

Jacket: Black Fleece | Shirt: Brooks Brothers | Belt: J.Crew

Pants: Uniqlo | Watch: Timex | Shoes: Peal & Co | Socks: Paul Smith (similar)

I encourage you all to get yourself an oxford cloth button down shirt, especially in the color light blue. Dress it up, dress it down, dress it all around.  It'll work with more combinations of outfits than you can possibly imagine.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: My picks

Mark Kwak

I'm a fan of Nordstrom. They exist in almost all major towns within the U.S., usually showcase excellent products, and also offer an almost unbeatable return policy. My only issue with them is that their products are often pretty expensive at retail price.

Also, they rarely hold any sales throughout the year, making it difficult to shop there regularly. I believe they only have 2-3 weeks out of the entire year where they sell items at a discount. The half yearly men's sale and the annual Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

Well great news, my friends! The latter sale, which is also their biggest sale of the year, just started today, and there's plenty of stock to choose from.

I've decided to curate some of my favorite pieces from the sale for you to see. Full transparency: some of these are still pretty damn expensive, though oftentimes worth it.

Allen Edmonds Strand: $229.90

I own these, and love them. Great time to pick up these beautiful and classic shoes.

Dockers Alpha Fogwash Chinos: $44.90

I love the fit and quality of Dockers' Alpha Khakis. Definitely worth a try.

Red Wing Beckman Boot: $199.90

I own these boots as well. They're amazing, and definitely worth it at this price. They will be slightly uncomfortable in the beginning just FYI.

Clarisonic Mia 2: $149.90

I use a Clarisonic Mia almost everyday in the shower. TMI? Maybe. Anyhow, yes, even dudes can use this thing, and it's worth a try. It's like a Sonicare toothbrush for your face.

Threads for Thought Varsity Jacket: $49.90

I've been pretty interested in the Varsity jacket look as of late. Here's one that won't cost you an arm and a leg.

Magnanni Double Monk: $209.90

If you're in the market for double monks, these might be worth a try. They look great in my opinion, and Magnannis are usually really comfortable from my experience.

Billy Reid Crewneck Sweater: $96.90

I really want this sweater myself. Not sure what's so appealing about it to me, but it seems to be stuck in my mind.

Wolverine Emerson: $294.90

Wolverine is one of my favorite bootmakers. And they don't disappoint with this rugged, high quality model.

Wallin & Bros. Sweater: $45.90

A slightly more affordable sweater than the Billy Reid one above.

Allen Edmonds Park Avenue: $229.90

One of the most classic shoes you'll ever find. If you need a pair of solid brown or black dress shoes, get these.

Billy Reid Leather Jacket: $999.90

I know, I know. It's a lot of money. However, I can't have one of these lists without a solid leather jacket. So here it is.

Allen Edmonds Dalton: $259.90

Yet again, I own these boots too. You've probably seen them on the blog before. Worth every penny.

Jack Spade Briefcase: #249.90

I think my boss owns this bag, and to me, it looks so elegant and simple. If I didn't have enough bags myself, I'd pick it up.

Rag & Bone Colorblock Sweater: $144.90

Love the look of this sweater. Though it is admittedly expensive.

The North Face Apex Jacket: $99.90

A really classic, solid jacket for the fall. Only downside is that everyone has one of these.

Calvin Klein No Show Socks: $12.90

You know how I feel about no-show socks.

Chuck Taylor Low Sneakers: $39.90

Classics.

Burberry London Navy Trench: $864.90

Trench coats are probably my favorite type of clothing. Burberry trench at that? You're in for a classic. And yes, I know it's not cheap by any measure.

There you go! My very long list of Nordstrom Anniversary Sale picks. Even if none of these appeal to you, check the sale out for yourself. You might find a thing or two that catches your eye.

Cheers, and happy Friday.

No fuss outfit

Mark Kwak

It's so interesting, the menswear world.

It's a detail-ridden world, where pocket square colors matter, fancy shoe laces get noticed, and a plain white dress shirt can have fifty different customization options. I personally love it, but have to admit that sometimes, the fuss isn't necessary.

Truth is, some people look damn good in just a plain white T-shirt, some blue jeans, and a pair of clean white sneakers; no extras, no details, no nonsense.

So, for those of you looking for literally the most no-hassle outfit possible, here's looking at you:

1. Calvin Klein white T-shirt.

2. Levi's 511 or 513 slim fit jeans.

3. Converse Jack Purcell sneakers.

Some notes: Levi's lower end jeans can wear out pretty quickly if you're wearing them super often, so remember to take good care of your denim. Converse Jack Purcell sneakers look awesome, but also make sure to maintain them as well, as they can get dirty pretty easily.  And lastly, try some different jackets with this outfit, I guarantee most jackets will work fine with it.

If you can, try wearing a simple outfit like this every now and again. If each piece fits well (remember that this is crucial), you might even get some compliments, which is kind of awesome since it probably took you only 4 seconds to put the entire getup on.

What am I wearing 12.23.12

Mark Kwak

Sometimes, you just want to feel comfortable and warm. Well, for me it's just one of those days. Here's what I'm wearing... while heating up some hot water for my tea.

wiwtcargo3

A shawl collar cardigan can be worn with so much; it's so versatile. This is a very casual outfit for me, and I feel the cardigan doesn't look out of place, despite being equally appropriate with a dress shirt and tie.

wiwtcargo1

Interesting story about the pair of chucks I'm wearing. They were gifted to me by the person who designed them (a designer at Converse). Honestly, I don't know how many pairs of these are around, but my suspicion is that it's quite limited. Shout out to my cousin for hooking it up.

wiwtcargo2

Even if you wear a simple T-shirt, it can still be a solid contributor to your overall look. In this case, I feel like the popping color of burgundy helps this shirt be one of the standout pieces of this outfit.

Cardigan: Brooks Brothers | Shirt: Rag & Bone | Watch: Omega

Pants: Uniqlo | Shoes: Converse

It's so interesting... I put this outfit together on a whim based on how I felt (wanted some comfort and warmth), but it looks like every item I'm wearing is kind of a "trend" item. The chunky shawl collar cardigan has been the thing to wear this winter, the colors burgundy (or oxblood as many like to call it) & olive green are prime colors for Fall/Winter 2012, and cargo pants have only recently begun to become popular again in mainstream fashion. Maybe I gotta take it easy on the fashion trends!

Either way, thought I'd share with you a comfortable look that you can easily emulate if you feel like it. Happy Holidays folks, stay comfortable and warm.

Now to get back to my hot tea.

Couple Sales

Mark Kwak

So it looks like there's sales everywhere right now, but I wanted to point out a couple for you in case you have some last minute Christmas shopping to do:

1. Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren is having a sale of up to 65% off right now. This includes Purple Label, Black Label, and RRL too! I'm fairly excited about this sale. Some items I thought I would point out include this RRL Morgan Plaid Wool Jacket, Merino Wool V Neck Sweater and this Lindrick Calf Boot by Crockett & Jones.

2. Barneys

Barneys-New-York

Barneys is having up to 60% off on sale items. The problem is that most of their items are so expensive that even with 60% off, you'll end up paying quite a bit... but in case you have the extra cash to spend, I say the time to shop is now!

3. Billy Reid

billy

Love Billy Reid. Great clothing, decent pricing, and overall a solid company. They're currently running a private sale (whatever that means) and I thought I would let you guys know. Some stand-out clothes for me include: Madison JacketAstor Coat, and Tuscumbia BD.

4. Boylston Trading Co

sale-eow

30% off of any order with "LASTDAYS", and there are already some sale items! There is something for everybody: Jack Purcells for Converse, Common Projects, Ovadia & Sons, Gitman Vintage, Gant Rugger, Woolrich Woolen Mills, and many other great brands.

Happy shopping folks!
