For the last year or so, I’ve totally immersed myself in the world of craft cocktails.
Where in 2013 I had no more knowledge of cocktails than understanding what’s in a whiskey ginger, I have now officially gone off the deep end, not only accumulating a ton of knowledge on spirits and liqueurs, but also coming dangerously close to becoming a raging alcoholic. Just kidding… I think?
For those of you who might be interested in getting into this hobby too, I have two recommendations for you as far as resources go:
The first is a book called Death & Co (named after the bar in NYC). It's a big, beautiful book with lots of pictures, recipes, and expertise from guys who know that they're talking about. Could be a great coffee table book, but I'd suggest it's better used as a manual for all things related to craft cocktails.
The second is an iOS app (sorry Android users) called Bartender's Choice. This app was created by the makers of another NYC bar called Milk & Honey. It's very simple, but makes searching for cocktail recipes super easy. Just type in an ingredient or cocktail name, and you got yourselves the recipe + instructions for making that drink on the spot.
The unfortunate thing is that the app costs $2.99. I personally found the cost well worth it, but I totally understand peoples' hesitations when buying any app, even if it's $1.00. Weird how we operate, huh?
Anyhow, check these two out if you have a chance. You'll be on your way to becoming a cocktail making king.
